Week 28 – Celebrate
This week’s prompt over at Bella’s 52 photos project is “Celebrate”. She said: “(feel free to pull a photo of your favorite celebration moments from your archives)”, so I did!
A few years ago, my Aunt gave me some diaries that belonged to my Grandmother written when Grandma was 18 years old! This page details her birthday celebration in 1910.

From my Grandmother’s diary: “Eighteen years old! Holiday for Battle of Concord & Lexington. Met B at 1 o’clock went to races, Cameron won. We walked or sat around resevoir all afternoon. Wore my new long pongee coat Ma gave me for birthday gift. Lavender silk bag from Mrs. Marshall, Dollar from Aunty; chamois gloves from Nat; lace stockings from Mary. Card from Margaret, letter from Eva Dill. Birthday supper, B stayed. Surprize party on me! Weston and Marion got it up. He jollied me on phone pretended he was Mr. Stebben (one I met Sat. at dance). Meanwhile party came in back door and to the parlor. I walked in “oh, say” to Bert but there was the crowd.”
My friend Betsy (not Captain Jack Sparrow as it might seem from this picture) typed up this list of “Do’s and Don’t’s” of being friends with me for my 40th birthday (and yes, we’re still friends!):

My boyfriend drew this for my brother’s 50th birthday celebration (his girlfriend threw him a surprise party, and he was actually surprised, what fun!):

Great post! It makes me really want to start keeping a journal again. Something about coming across an aged looking book with someone else’s secrets and dreams inside that just can’t be replaced by blogs or technology.
