Bright and cheery

Recently, Dave and I have been going to the same Chinese place for, of all things, their sushi bar. It’s one of those all-you-can-eat buffet places, and at first my sushi snobbishness got in the way. But last Thursday (usually we go on Fridays, but we were going to a concert that day) I finally gave it a chance, and oh boy! The sushi chef made me some salmon and tuna nigiri to order and it was as fresh and delicious as the nigiri I’d gotten at Whole Foods during the week…and way less expensive.
Friday night, Dave and I met Andrea and Bill at Bull Run in Shirley to see the still amazing Johnny Winter. If you go see him…BRING EAR PLUGS! Cause, apparently…JOHNNY LIKES IT LOUD! SO loud, in fact, that to me it sounded distorted. So I stuck my fingers in my ears…lo and behold, I could hear him sing and play clearly! That night was pretty foggy and on the way there, I almost hit a cat that decided to do a U-turn in the road. I was a bit stressed when I got there, and without me saying it, Andrea noticed and just gave me a hug. It helped!
This weekend, we were supposed to watch Dave’s grandsons, but because the younger one was sick, Dave went over there by himself since we didn’t want me exposed to more germs and getting sick again. So Saturday, Wolf and I took a ride to the beach! It was a warm-ish (for here) day. Wolf loved it! Every time he sees a mussel shell, he tries to bury it in the sand. Dig, dig, dig, I tell him! I stopped for a slice of pizza afterwards and parked nearby where the old Frolics used to be. Many many memories of concerts at that place in my 20s. I also cleaned the condo, vacuumed and hand washed the floors and did some rearranging.
Sunday, I was going to clean and organize more, but … the best of intentions and all that. I rented the movie, The Help and enjoyed the heck out of it. Made some buttermilk and cornmeal waffles and buttermilk chicken for dinner. Both were delicious! Click on the link for the recipe, if you’re so inclined. I also made a big pot of 15 bean soup, which I ladled into pint mason jars for my lunch next week (and extra to share with a friend at work who likes my cooking).
And that was about it!
How was your weekend?

I resigned from my life this weekend, almost entirely. A friend needed a place to stay and we wound up using each other as the excuse we needed to stay in and watch TV and eat junk food all weekend long. It was glorious! OK, it was glorious except when the cat puked all over my bed and when the dog peed on me. Having help to clean that up was pretty awesome, though.

I would have totally rested on Sunday after doing so much on Saturday!
I’m milking the Shingles pain for all it’s worth. I rested on Saturday until heading over to a friend’s house for a Chinese New Year party, tried yet another church on Sunday morning and spent Sunday afternoon reading the e-book “Spectacle” by Angie McCullagh. (Good read!)

It sounds like a good weekend! I did the chauffeuring thing, taking my son to two bike races, but he had a great time so I’m happy.

Good idea to be careful about germs. I think you are more susceptible. Making Italian Wedding Soup tonight for dinner and made Jack salad and quiche for his lunch and mine. Think I’ll make some cornbread to go with the soup.
All is well. They’re opening a new, big Antique store here soon, will keep you posted, and this weekend is the Pond Hockey Derby on my very own Lake! Saturday I go to see RICKY SKAGGS & Kentucky Thunder, at The Flying Monkey in Plymouth. Keep me in your prayers.

I really loved The Help as well, but all the controversy over makes my love of it somewhat suspect. That’s a great idea for the soup.

Thank you for the surf video! It has been far too long since I have been near an ocean! As usual, I worked and did little else. I enjoyed the movie The Help too.

Gee, last night…after we did our taxes…we walked b a Chinese restaurant in our neighbourhood…and asked”gee why don’t we try this out ever?”So maybe we will. There is a place in Toronto called Mandarin Garden and they have a buffet of all the food in the world. I recommend it at least once.

What a great weekend. The weather was quite lousy here, so it wasn’t that much fun.

We had a good weekend too. Long walk with the dog, some shopping, out to dinner. Good stuff.
Love that clip of that beach (Salisbury?) I wish my dog could be off leash like that.
Hope your week is going great. xo
