My own bill of rights!
Just another Mine’s up!!
If you could write your own bill of rights, what would you include? The right to take pictures in restaurants; the right to be positive; the right to say what you feel and have the person you’re saying it to take it in the exactly right way; the right to be able to do the things you like without fear of ridicule; and finally, the right to drink great wine and not get a headache!
What is going on in the world today that affects you the most? All the hate, especially that surrounding President Obama. I’m sorry, but I can’t help but think it’s due to racism. There is still so much of it in this world; I’ve seen and heard it firsthand. Wish it weren’t so…
What do you think is the secret to a good life? To see the positive and not dwell on the negative, which kind of contradicts what I said above, but basically I do think it’s the secret to life…and I try…but I’m not always successful!

Took this one in Salem on Saturday…it was a beautiful day!

I like your bill of rights. I think we need it in Arizona. Now, please excuse me, I have a child doing math homework upon whom I may or may not have to impose a gag order.

I am very sad about all the vitriol in politics right now. But I do agree that being positive is the secret to life (my latest blog post is not positive – ack).
Salem looks lovely. I haven’t been there in so long. We should meet up down that way this summer some time…!

I think that far from showing us as a post-race nation, Obama’s election showed those of us who had no idea how bad racism still is, the truth.

Can I come live in your country?

Oooh, what a gorgeous photo! (I’m ignoring the whole racism thing here because it’s early morning and I still haven’t had enough coffee to comment rationally with something beyond “racism sucks”.)

GORGEOUS blossoms!
While I do believe that racism is a piece of what is going on (and it makes me sad… irritated… and a whole slew of other emotions), I think is possibly more a symptom of a bigger problem. There is a huge rift between right wing and left wing, and the space between them has been filled with such hatred and lies told about each other that there is a trench of filth being scooped up and thrown at one another constantly. Just like playground bullies, the haters pick up on the obvious characteristics of the hated and use it as a tool. With Bush, it was his speaking mistakes (mixing up words); therefore he was obviously stupid. Obama is well-spoken, but the color of his skin is obvious and his middle name also became fodder, hence racism rears its very ugly head.
Many of us want to think we are a post-racism culture, but clearly that is not true.
I need to go cheer myself up with a cup of tea now.
