Here’s last Wednesday’s picture:
And this is what it was cropped from:
a dogwood blossom! Stacy has enlightened me; it’s a magnolia!
My friend Michelle was the only one to guess it exactly! She said: “I think it is a blossoming dogwood tree“. Now…I don’t know HOW she got it…but damn (oops, sorry)!
The others to guess it was a blossom were:
- My sweet cousin MB (who has some brand new puppy pictures on her blog) says: “I think it is a flower bud about to open.”
- Heidi: “It looks like an emerging flower.”
- Smoochiefrog: “I looks like a flower bud that is still closed but starting to open. Like a rose bud.”
- Mrs.G.: “poppy budding”
The rest of you totally cracked me up LOL! Thanks!

pickle cactus?

Um… I don’t think that dogwood have hair little anthers like that. I suspect that is a magnolia. I could be wrong, but on a dogwood, the petals are actually the bract, which means they are already the outside of the “blossom.”
Magnolias erupt from an anther that splits down the bottom side (usually) and look a little more than vaguely phallic as they emerge.

I think the one for this week looks like a sweet pickle standing on end but I am betting it’s actually some sort of succulent!
I didn’t even want to venture a guess last week…mostly because the only thing I could think of was a baboon butt!

Looks like pickles to me…
April 29th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Though I was leaning toward the “something pickled” idea….I’m thinking now that it’s something growing out of some rocks in the bed of a stream….maybe….
or it could be an orange, like Cheri said.

April 30th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
is it something in the cactus or aloe family?
April 30th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
I think it’s a cactus and all Andy could come up with was something under water. But I like g-man’s guess best.
