one’s missing …
3rdEyeMuse made a comment on my “hands” entry yesterday: “… but, but … one’s missing … where’s a shot of your hand and the quote?!?” The quote she’s referring to is this tattoo I got last July:

I went on to do a project on flickr, One Object 365 Days, in which you photograph the same object once a day for a year. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish this project, but I did go 197 days! Here’s a collage of my tattoo:
This one, though, is my favorite:

In other news, today my brother and I meet with the realtors (a team of two competent ladies) we chose to sell our parents’ home that they bought in 1960. It was a house my Dad had fallen in love with as he drove past it on the way to work. One day he saw a “For Sale” sign on it and that began the campaign to convince my Mom to move from the city, where she’d lived all her life, to the “suburbs”, where she felt she’d be stuck, since she didn’t drive. For better or worse, he convinced her and they settled into the community, joining the church up the street and the choir, and making friends.
It’s not really bothering me too much, selling the childhood home, since the house needs more work than I can afford. I, in turn, am looking forward to finding a home of my own, probably a condo, probably within 45 minutes of where I work. I only have 4 “musts” on my list: must allow dogs, must be on the top floor, must be in a good neighborhood, must have a condo fee under a certain amount. Of course, I’d love some nice hardwood floors and a balcony and very quiet but friendly neighbors. What would you look for in a new home?

*giggles* – that’s more like it! love the photo’s – thank you.
In a new home … hmm … the only thing missing from this one is an actual studio.

LOVE the collage! What fun!
As for a home, don’t ask. I’ll only come off as a snob.

I totally wondered about why there was no shot with your special finger, too! I love the collage, and the picture with the pen is brilliant.
I would want hardwood floors and LIGHT. Lots of windows for LIGHT. If I were to buy a condo, it would have to be the top floor, too, or if it were single story complex, I’d look for one on the end, with a little yard/patio.
I think it is really cool that you are looking for a place that is yours. I love the story about how your dad convinced your mom to move and they built a new life. It might not be easy to see the childhood home sold (is it a bit hard?), but think of the wonderful memory-filled home that you are sending back out into the universe for another family. I’m sure the next family will fix it up and love it, too. Wouldn’t it be cool one day, after the “For Sale” sign goes up, a nice man drives by on his way to work, and he begins a campaign to convince his wife to move to the suburbs?

I am lucky to live in the house that I transformed into what I want–still if I could have more of what I wanted, it would be a lap pool. I love to swim and to be able to do it in my own home would be too cool.
Good luck in your search.

What fun to start househunting. I hope not too bittersweet.
For me, I’d like to have a home that is a little farther away from other houses.
A Jacuzzi wouldn’t suck either.

How could you not include pictures of your cool tattoo?!
I had a dream that I lived in a super cool loft overlooking the water somewhere. Now I just need to find that place. Well, find that place and sell this house first.
I’d want a place for my dog, a nice kitchen as I like to cook, a nice bathroom because I like to primp
and enough room in my bedroom for my gigantic bed.
Good luck on your hunt!

Light! Lots and lots of windows…

Good luck with the house hunting. Have fun with it.
BTW I LOVE your ring

Are there lots of condos in the area? I think being in a condo would be good in the sense of not having to do a lot of upkeep.
Funny how we’re both looking for a new home, kind of in the area we were in before.
We have interesting parellels with both pups named wolfie too! I’m looking for gas stove! and a bathroom with a good spot for a peepee pad.

We moved a couple of years ago as you know. We had to have a space for a studio, which is easy, and a good space for dogs, less easy. Make sure that Wolf and Max like their new home, right?

I compromised on one of my musts when buying a home, “must have a fenced in yard”. This is something we can add on our own over time. The other musts for me were, MUST be in a location that will let me take the bus, be in a friendly neighborhood, near my family, easy commute to work and MUST have gas for the stove.

You’ll have to explain to me one day what a condo actually is.
And speaking of projects….where’s Jack??

LOVE that tat. Reminds me of that quote: “life’s too mysterious, don’t take it serious.”
Re: the house…. There are so many emotions attached to the cycles of a house. When we were looking to buy ours, we saw houses where the old person who had been in charge for so many years, was obviously removed in the middle of an ordinary day. One still had a coffee cup on the counter, with red lipstick on the rim. I could go on & on….. xoh

My dream is to have an old victorian home with a wrap around porch……and fireplaces….*sigh*
(oh, and put it on the beach and it would be perfection!)

I think 197 is damn impressive! Beautiful job.

Such an awesome set!
If I could buy back my childhoood home but move it elsewhere, I would. Otherwise, I’m content enough. For now.

A 3 car garage. And an island in my kitchen.
My dad still lives in my childhood home and I’ll be so sad when he sells it.

H’s office will be moving so we’re debating whether to move closer as the new commute will be so long. #1 on the list is that it must allow pets. Also important is the size, price, how far from the station, supermarket nearby, not on the first floor, and I’m really holding out for being near some green, a park would do.

that last photo is AWESOME!!!!!
right now i have everything i want in a home: it is filled with my family.
although i would like it if it was filled with less laundry.

Love this collage, and *especially* the last one with the smile face caption!
What i’d look for in a house….I think you’ll “know” after you walk through one if it’s right for you. BUT! Speaking for myself, I think the best time to check out a house is when the weather is NASTY. rainy! Then you can see how it handles the weather and check for potential leaks, mud, drainage issues, you name it.

A quiet and friendly neighborhood is a great must have. I love my neigborhood
I wish Ihad a bigger yard and a fenced in yard but overall I found all my must have’s
Good luck with the house shopping!

I think there’s a tremendous magic in home buying. A home finds you when you find it. Trust your senses, you’ll pick well. You can make a list to be sure you have what you need, but you’d be surprised what’s available if you open your self to the process.
For you? I’d add near the ocean, outside space, and close to an open space to walk or run with the dogs.
You’ll find someone wonderful. I know it

I found your site through T13 and love all the photos. The layout is fantastic.
These are great, and what a daring tattoo! I have Buddha eyes on my forearm for, I believe, a similar reason.
