T13: 80s songs
Come play along at the new Thursday-13 Hq!
Some songs from the 1980s that I loved…in no particular order:
1. New Toy by Lena Lovich…I named my tortoiseshell cat, Toy, after this song!
2. Nite n Day by Al B Sure. Sigh…
3. We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off by Jermaine Stewart. Always always makes me smile when I hear this song!
4. Never Too Much by Luther Vandross. beautiful man this video makes me smile and makes my heart hurt a little to think he’s gone.
5. Our House by Madness. Very sing-a-long-able!
6. The Midas Touch by Midnight Star. LOVED this song!
7. Words by Missing Persons. I could totally relate to this line, “no one notices, i think i’ll dye my hair blue”.
8. The Secret Garden by Quincy Jones. I can remember sitting at the condo of an old boyfriend’s sister in VA laughing at the beginning of this song…”tell me a secret”
8. Wishing Well by Terence Trent Darby. That laugh…that voice!
9. Come On Eileen by Dexy’s Midnight Runners. Love the beginning!
10. Sweet Love by Anita Baker. I adore her voice!
11. She Drives Me Crazy by Fine Young Cannibals. He was adorable!
12. Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel. One of the best videos ever!
13. Mirror in the Bathroom by The English Beat.

Ahh, my friend, you’ve taken me back — to better places than most 80s radio stations can.

TTD! Remember when he thought he was going to change the world with his music? I loved that album. I still have it kicking around somewhere.

I’ve been having my own ‘blast from the past’ evening over at youtube and i’m noticing that a lot of songs you liked, would also be on my list….but i’d have a bit more southern rock on mine!!
and really…..the singer from Fine Young Cannibals? oh yeah…he was…fine, that is!!

I Loved Terence Trent D’Arby. I saw him live too – somewhere in Fenway. I forget the club. It was very very good. That cd was my soundtrack for 88 or 89 or whenever the heck it was.

Ahhhh..the 80’s! I hadn’t even thought of Lene Lovich in forever until you listed her song(whatever happened to her, I wonder)
I saw that the English Beat are touring(in Prov. soon)and it reminded me of the time I saw them in an old hockey rink(turned into a club…briefly) in 1982? 83?–opening for them on their first tour? The Bangles!
Thanks for this entry and taking me back to those days…

My 19yo loaded a couple of Peter Gabriel songs onto iTunes from my “So” CD. I mentioned its existence when I noticed that he had downloaded the Peter Gabriel song from Wall-E.

Oh I just listened to Mirror In The Bathroom – actually the entire What Is Beat album – Saturday night. We came home from the J. Geils/Aerosmith concert and weren’t ready for bed yet. English Beat fit the need just perfectly!
