Snapshot: January 2009

Come play along at the new Thursday-13 Hq!
Snapshot of Thirteen Things during the month of January
(borrowed from Dawn)
1) photo of me: One of my co-worker friends took this…she liked the caution sign in the background! Course I was wearing a huge shirt that day.
2) current candle scents: Incense Spirit, from West Elm (discontinued). I saved pieces of a burnt down candle, and I put small pieces in an oil burner…man does it smell good! This is a great way to use those last bits of candle wax, too. Looks like this:
3) what i am currently reading: I’m rereading the Harry Potter books and am in the middle of the second one right now. I’m also reading, a story at a time, Stephen King’s latest, “Just After Sunset” at Barnes & Noble.
4) newest music i added to my playlist: Oh, a whole bunch of music; one of the new IT guys at work made some CDs for me.
5) movies i saw: I saw Seven Pounds and absolutely loved it!
6) something yummy i made this month: Mushroom bourguignon … DELICIOUS!!!
7) the last place i ate out: Small Plates, a cute little restaurant in Harvard Square. I had a bleu cheese raclette that was to DIE for!
8.) something that made me cry: All the things that I kept inside since Dad passed…all came out last Tuesday and my poor friend Cal got the brunt of that. He didn’t seem to mind, though, and talked me through it.
9) something that made me laugh: Any number of things that happen on a daily basis
10) something i looked forward to this month: Strange as it may be, I looked forward to seeing friends I don’t normally get to see at Dad’s memorial service.
11) something i am thankful for: That Dad’s memorial service went well.
12) something i want to remember about this month: That friends make life so much easier!
13) a photo i took this month: I took 174 in January, here’s a few that made me smile:

(the picture in the middle is not me, it’s my friend Diane, with my dog, Wolf)
Which one is your favorite, and why?

I can’t pick favorite pictures, but I love this snapshot of your January, words, pictures, all of it.

Favorite? YOU AND WOLF BABY! Of course, all the poppets is intriguing too….
February 4th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
has to be you and Wolf – because of the LOVE, mahn! … but Skelly & the moon pie (I think it’s something like that) is a pretty close second (cuz it’s cool how the treat is a skelly, too)

What Maggie said.

They are all amazing! But the puppy love is great.

I can relate to #9. Feb 13th will be a year that my Dad passed away. Valentines will never be the same. Nice pic:) Happy TT.

Having just lost my Mom at Christmas time I can so relate to much of what you’ve said.
As for my fav pic. I love the vibrant orange and yellow flowers. They make me feel like Spring, and that can never be a bad thing.
Sending ((warm hugs))) Happy T13!

I’ve taken about that many photos too, but they are mostly of the same things over and over.

Puppy smooch center shot is the best. But I also like the top left creatures in surf.
P.S. – Hubby was so psyched by your Whole Lotta Rosie comment that he is now rockin’ out in the basement – aka the Man Cave.

I do want to see that movie.
I remember how heartwarming it was to see so many old friends and family members at my brothers’ wakes and my dads. It definately elevates you but then it does wear off. Grief is an expression of love.
Nice flower.

February 5th, 2009 at 2:52 am
What? Oh. Umm. Uhh…
Sorry, I saw bleu cheese raclette and all rational thought immediately left my head! God that sounds good.
February 5th, 2009 at 3:23 am
I love Skelly with moonpie! he took a BIIIG bite for a lil guy!
Isn’t that the great and fucked thing about memorials? (((Janet)))
February 5th, 2009 at 4:11 am
I’m so sorry about your dad, but I’m glad the memorial went well.
Come check out my T13 this week, I’ve got something interesting you might not have known about Stephen King. =)

What a great idea for a TT! I really enjoyed reading your snapshots.
I’ve listed 13 pagan webshops this week.
February 5th, 2009 at 8:19 am
Of course everyone loves the smooch in the middle, but there’s something about a dog in bed all covered up that brings some wonderful memories for me
February 5th, 2009 at 9:58 am
So colorful and heartwarming. {{hugs}}
February 5th, 2009 at 10:08 am
All of your pictures are wonderful, but this morning I happen to like the flower ones best. It is chilly here and the flowers remind me of spring and warm breezes.
Happy TT!

I like the photo of you and your dog. It shows your affection for each other. I want to read “Just After Sunset.” It’s on my list. Happy TT!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:08 am
I love your photos… my goal is to be a better photographer. I am sorry about your Dad. It is tough losing a parent. I lost my Dad Nov 16th 2007 and am still not over it.
February 5th, 2009 at 12:09 pm
I’m very sorry to hear about your father.
I started to reread the Potter books too a few years ago, I think I made it to book 3?
My fav pictures are the one of your dog in the upper right hand corner, and then the one right under it too.
It’s nice to visit you again!
February 5th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
What a great post! You’ve really warmed my heart. I appreciate you sharing a photo of yourself – you are such a beautiful person.
February 5th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
I need a boy-toy that makes mix CDs for me. *sigh*
And I love the red and white one. It’s so simple and RED and WHITE!
February 5th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Great list! I need to steal this idea for a TT some time.
My heart goes out to you on the loss of your father. My dad passed away in 2004, and I miss him more all the time.
February 5th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
i like the one with skelly and the half-eaten treats. i love pictures of food. don’t know why but i do.
February 5th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Man, you packed this full of stuff to respond to! No fair — how can I pick one thing?
February 5th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
I love re-reading the HP books, and always catch myself with tears in my eyes through the last three! My imagination is so much better than the movies, LOL
)
My fav is the shot of the oranges, SO yummy
February 5th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Seven Pounds is on my list of movies I want to see. I’ve heard so many good things about it! And you know, sometimes the tears just need to come out–it’s cleansing. Having good friends around you make it easier for them to dry though. =)
I think my favorite photo is the one yellow flower. Something about the contrast of color on dark and just a hint of shadow. Makes me feel like I could reach right out & pick it up off my screen!
Thanks for playing along, Janet. =)

You know – you once commented that I looked like you. Well, based on #1, I think you do look like me. Huh.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Fun T13. Have a great weekend.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
I really want to see Seven Pounds too. I like the picture of your dog in bed, very cute and cozy.
February 5th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Do you eat while you’re reading? If so, don’t while you read the last story in that S. King book!
February 5th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
Max looks so comfy and cozy! He must have been leaning against a really great person!
February 5th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
I heard seven pounds was good…its on my list
February 5th, 2009 at 10:12 pm

February 5th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
My fav has to be the puppy kiss. Dogs are my weakness. And babies. Other peoples babies.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
You and the caution sign– I love it! My grandma used to say ’she’s a caution’ about people. I love that expression.
I love the shot of the daisies because it made me smile.
February 6th, 2009 at 3:59 am
Great list. Loved the pictures at the end; my favourite was the skeleton eating the teacake (do you call them that in the US?) just because it made me smile.
February 6th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
I love that candle! And of your photos – all great – I like the flowers the best…
February 15th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Found you on Thursday Thirteen or T-13 as it is now called. Liked your pictures.
