What Is It Wednesday #131
Here’s last Wednesday’s picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:

horse chestnut – not edible for humans, unfortunately!
These were the first three to get it right:
- Julie: “Chestnut with its skin/shell still on.” (that’s two weeks in a row, and to think she used to complain she never got these!)
- Sally from Oz (Books and Musings): “Is it a chestnut inside it’s pod? From a horse chestnut tree?”
- Gary: “it is a CHESTNUT WITH SPIKY SHELL AND LITTLE CHESTNUT inside”
The one that cracked me up was from the not-me Janet: “…although there is a part of me that really wants to think it’s sharks swimming in tree bark.”
This week’s picture is courtesy of Lea. So…

What is it?
If you don’t see your comments, don’t worry…I’m most likely moderating them…or not! I like to keep you on your toes!

Geode?
But you always do food…so I’m perplexed.

One of those mineral rocks you get when your parents drag you to a museum hoping to broaden your horizons.
I have a purple pokey amethyst….still almost 30 years later!
PS, the chestnut (the twins) opened up so much since this pic….we had fun playing with them. I was paranoid about the not eating. Husband’s mom makes these chocolate covered peanut butterballs called buckeyes that we get at Christmas time. They look identical to these things! But we took so pics…I googled how to plant them…so soon we will see!

I think it’s the center of a geode nodule.

Feeding of what others have said, I think it is a crystalized, geode mineral rock. But you know the center part….

p.s. i think if you put eyes on the horse chestnut, it might look like a little dude’s head with a spikey helmet on…something cool to take a photo of skelly with perhaps

I’m not going to say what it is, but if you’re an Indigo Bunting, that photo is porn. Just sayin’.

Gosh this is hard – looks like the centre of what we in Australia call a Thunderegg – not sure of their geological name – although not a geode or agate.
Or it could be the centre of a flower – but I am sticking with thunderegg

I’m going with the flow here and say it’s the inside of a geode…BUT….it also looks like the inside of one of those BIG jawbreakers we use to get as kids and would have to break with a hammer to eat!

That is the centre of a very beautiful geode. I didn’t even have to hum and wonder about this one!

I think it is a Geode. My kids were into rocks when they were little and we always had to visit rock shops when we were on vacations.

I’m late but I think it’s a geode.

Did you know that chestnuts are excellent spider deterrent? Just use a nail to put a hole in the shell, and place around the house!
