1986 and other things
Man, I cannot believe it was in 1986 that the Celtics last won a championship! I was SO into basketball back then, too, but I was a Bulls fan (loved Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippin, Horace Grant). Course, I wasn’t unhappy when the Celts won, as long as it wasn’t against the Bulls. The game is on in the background tonight…I’m not vested in it, but it would be nice to have a Boston team win.
A political fund raiser called Dad yesterday. He was quite tired at the time but had picked up the phone anyway (I’d picked up the extension at the same time and listened in. Nosy much?). This woman was a piece of work!!! She said, “Hello Mr. Dad, how are you today.“, and then without so much as waiting for a response, launched into her request for money. First she mentioned how the liberals were going to burn the country down if they got in the White House [ok, I might have exaggerated a bit there] and said, “Please, Mr. Dad, can’t you contribute $65 to keep the liberals at bay?” Dad said, “I’ve been in the hospital, and I’m not feeling too well, but I’ll do what I can.” This PIECE OF WORK doesn’t hesitate, doesn’t say I’m sorry, doesn’t say I hope you feel better, but instead launches into her next spiel: “Well, Mr. Dad, perhaps you can contribute $55 then, did you know that Al Franken was endorsed at the Democratic Convention [drugs, sex & rock n roll will now infiltrate America] and the liberals are running wild?” Dad said, “I’ll do what I can.” Repeat again, more inflammatory statements, more political rhetoric and we get down to $25, whereupon I step in and politely ask her to STOP BADGERING HIM RIGHT NOW. The nerve!
Wolf and I took a long walk Saturday, and he was attacked by a gang of wild and bloodthirsty…ticks!!! I must’ve pulled 10 off him *shivers* sooooo gross!!! Thankfully none were attached.
My brother and I took Dad out for lunch today; we ended up at The Gloucester House, where Dad had the Fisherman’s Platter. That man can eat, I tell you what! He finished it all, except for the fries AND had dessert. So there we are in Gloucester, very picturesque, on the ocean…and I forgot my camera! GAH!

YOU forgot your camera? Wow!

Will you remember it ever happened if you don’t have the photos to show it?!

Sometimes it is just nice to enjoy the ambience of the moment, the conversation and good food…and leave the lens at home.
So glad your Dad’s feeling better….I have had you both in my thoughts. And as for Miss Political Thing…so glad you stepped in and shut her down! Ha-ha. She had some nerve….Sheesh!

I’m glad you got to spend a nice Father’s Day together. I’m also glad that I hadn’t been the one in your shoes for the phone thing – people annoy me.

You forgot your camera? That’s a hanging offence.
Soliciting for money on the phone should also be a hanging offence.
Happy Fathers’ Day Mr S. (It’s in September here)

Sounds similar to us ~ seems like someone is always calling and hasseling B’s Dad, they just not give up.
We had to stop walking in the fields (refuge) now that the warmer weather and ticks, a plenty, are back. Don’t forget to check yourself.
Glad to hear your Dad was up and able to get out for a meal.

YOU FORGOT YOUR CAMERA?
Are you unwell?

So glad to hear your dad is feeling better – that’s awesome! Not that I’m watching it, but I’d love the Celtics to win, too – I was 16 in 1986 and in love with the whole team.
And Ms. Phone Thang needs to call my dad – he had a stroke a few years ago and likes to deliberately slur his speech at phone solicitors (he doesn’t actually have any speech problems these days) and v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y and in great detail explain that he’s had a stroke … they usually give up and don’t call back. He thinks he’s hysterical. Actually, so do I!

Awww man, I hate when I don’t have my camera on me. I wish they would like implant it on me
That political woman sounds nuts. Your poor dad, I’m glad that you were there to rescue him!

Ah… 1986. ‘Twas a very good year.
I pulled tick off one of my dogs last night. It was attached. Poor baby. I’ve had dogs down here for most of my life and never had a tick before.

I was at Game 4 at Staples Center (unfortunately) to watch a big lead evaporate………….:-(
Being a Lakers rooter (no surprise) I was glad to see that we could send it back to Boston for Game 6…..:-)

Sounds like your dad is doing much better, glad to hear! Also glad to hear you shared a nice Father’s day with him! Though not sure what to think about you forgetting your camera!!
As for phone B*$#H…. I have no patience whatsoever for the rudeness that they display and how the hound you. I say no thank you, and hang up. It makes me so mad that even after he said he had been in the hospital she kept on!
June 16th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Some people are SO rude and to badger him after he’s said he’s been in the hospital…wow, that’s rude!
June 16th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
I’m sure it’s just me but….
blood sucker on the phone…..

Yikes!

Happy belated Father’s Day to your dad.
I was really excited that it was going to be a Lakers v. Celtics championship. It reminds me of the old days when I first became and NBA fan. I too am a Lakers fan as at least one other person mentioned here but I’ll be okay if the Celts win because they have a Kansas boy on their team. I do want it all to go to a game seven though.
